frequently asked questions |
Why have you released it for free? Surely you won't make any money?
Interati is a web applications company. Commercially developing, releasing & supporting an XML editor would a) not be core to our business and b) would take too much of our precious time up! However, we're also software engineers and we hate to see good software go to waste - hence the GPL.
We'd like to include your editor in a commercial product, can we?
Not under the terms of the GPL. If you would like to discuss different licensing terms please contact us.
When I try and run debit I get a class not registered error. Why?
This error occurs when debit can't find the Microsoft XML parser on your system. Check that you have IE5 installed (or IE4 with the XML parser redistributable).
When will feature 'x' be in Debit?
When someone writes it. If you add a feature that you feel you would like to share with the world then feel free to send it to info@interati.co.uk and if it's good enough we'll add it.
When does a Java version come out?
Well it's certainly possible - especially now with Java 2 and the mature XML parsers that are available. However, this would certainly mean more time than we have right now.
What language is Debit written in?
Debit was written in Borland (Inprise) Delphi version 4. It uses the Microsoft XML parser for the actual parsing and the Delphi RX libraries for some of the GUI features.
Will it compile on Delphi 1,2,3 or 5?
We haven't tried any of these so your actual mileage may vary. Delphi 1 is almost definitely a non-starter, Delphi 2 would need some work because it's pre Active X. Delphi 3 and 5 *should* be OK. If you have had any luck with these versions then please let us know.
When I load the project into Delphi, the icons are all corrupted!
You need to update to service pack #3. Quoting from Borland "TImageList. Work around video driver problems in STB, Diamond, and other S3-based video cards by changing the IDE image list's growth delta (to avoid growth) and adopting the comctrl IStream for persistence. (Involves some loss of backwards compatibility for users of Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.)"
When I try to open the preview form, I get a TWebBrowser not found error
Make sure you have imported the TWebBrowser component into Delphi.
How can I/we get support for Debit?
We currently provide no support for Debit. Check the FAQ and other documentation provided on this site. Also, if you can understand Pascal, try the source files. As a last resort, mail debit@interati.co.uk, however we cannot offer any guarantees that your mail will be answered.
Why is it called Debit?
As you would guess, a source of much debate within the office, we eventually went with Debit because, well, it rhymes with 'edit', and it doesn't have an 'X' in!
